Former Boulder Police Detective

-- Greg Idler, Boulder Police Department Detective (retired)
.

. [IMAGE] "Excellent in investigations and at interviewing. Steve never let anything die; he always worked it to the end. And he's an expert when it came to deceptive responses from suspects. Steve has never been one to take the easy or the most popular way. He's the one who wants to get justice."

"He's one hell of an investigator and a good cop."

-- Jim Kolar, formerly with the Boulder Police Department,
now Police Chief in Telluride, Colorado
.

. [IMAGE] "Steve Thomas' uncompromising pursuit of truth shines in an otherwise sad and tragic situation. Every child needs an advocate with as much strength and determination. I am proud to count him among my friends."

-- Marc Klaas father of Polly Klaas and founder of KlaasKids Foundation
.

. [IMAGE] "Steve Thomas is one of the finest men I've known in any walk of life. He does not waiver in the face of criticism. Seeking justice for the death of JonBenet Ramsey, he has pursued the facts of this horrific crime with tenacity and objectivity."

-- Dr. Donald Foster, Vassar College professor, attributional linguist, and author, Author Unknown
.

. [IMAGE] "Steve Thomas is a rare combination of truth-seeker, cop, author, citizen . . .traveling a lonesome path of the dedicated few."

-- Shelley Ross, Executive Producer, ABC-TV's Good Morning America
.

. [IMAGE] "The Ramsey investigation as chronicled by Steve Thomas is far more disturbing for exposing the appalling travesty of inequity and dysfunction which, by all accounts, was willingly sanctioned by Boulder's criminal justice team. The very ones who were to seek justice on the victim's behalf, instead saved themselves in the face of political pressure."

-- Marty Brhel, Deputy District Attorney (retired), Riverside County, California
.

. [IMAGE] "Steve Thomas lived the nightmare that all cops fear -- a heinous crime compounded by prosecutorial misconduct. Through it all, he stood by his convictions. Steve should be commended for taking such a stand, and law enforcement can do right by him."

-- Sgt. Randy Sutton, LV Metropolitan Police Department
.

. [IMAGE] "Steve Thomas was of tremendous assistance to the United States Secret Service during my tenure in Denver. He is a true professional. It's a shame to lose him from our profession. His merit lies in his actions: to leave the job he loves to speak out against the injustice he hates."

-- Bill Bresnahan, Assistant Special Agent in Charge, United States Secret Service (Retired),
Denver, Colorado
.

. [IMAGE] "Steve Thomas knows so much about the murder of JonBenet Ramsey. He doesn't mince words. He is an asset for any prosecution team, a man I count among my esteemed colleagues."

-- Dr. Cyril Wecht, forensic pathologist and attorney
.

. [IMAGE] "The character on or off-screen of Steve Thomas is unquestionably the most accurate character I have portrayed. He's a man of intelligence and decency and his image is rock solid."

-- Scott Cohen, actor, ABC-TV's NYPD Blue
.

. [IMAGE] "From my investigation of the Ramsey murder, Steve Thomas was the lead detective on the case from the beginning and may know what happened better than anyone."

-- Lawrence Schiller, New York Times best-selling author and Executive Producer of Perfect Murder, Perfect Town

. [IMAGE] Steve,

I have been in law enforcement for twenty one years as a Philadelphia police officer and spent another eight years in Pennsylvania State Parole. I am nearing the conclusion of your book which was given to me recently by my son-in-law who is also a Philly cop. I am nearly finished with the book and all I can say is that during the reading of it, I found it very difficult to control my temper. I do not know how you kept your composure as well as you did during the investigation.

My hat goes off to you Steve. You truly are a cop's cop.

Good luck to you and your family and I wish you the very best.

Sincerely,

A.A.

. [IMAGE] Steve,

You're a stand-up guy, Steve. I've researched this case for a while and although I haven't always had the best relations with the police I'd like to say that both my wife and I believe your account of the Ramsey case was probably the most accurate and honest account . . .

It's very sad that JonBenet is gone, but the search for truth and justice remains. I feel as though you have done your duty to yourself, your peers, the state and to the Lord.

Detectives like you give me a glimmer of hope that maybe the world isn't so bad.

God bless you Steve. There are many of us out here that stand behind you 100%.

Sincerely,

T&M S.

. [IMAGE] Mr. Thomas,

I just wanted to send a heartfelt "thank-you" for the tremendous amount of blood, sweat and tears that was put forth by you into the Ramsey investigation. You restore my faith in policemen.

I just finished reading your book for the second time (I needed to read it again, because I was so incredibly shocked and angered by the first read through, it was difficult to concentrate) How you managed to stay with the case as long as you did is a miracle to me. Despite the abuse heaped on you and your colleagues, from so many different levels, you maintained your focus and your dignity . . . .

I know that you are no longer involved in law enforcement, but if anything happened to a child of mine, and you appeared at my doorstep, I would truly feel as if God had sent an angel.

Regards,
M.K.

. [IMAGE] Dear Steve,

I knew you a long time ago (about 11 years ago), and I always thought you were a man of great integrity. I have followed this case with great interest, and you have proven it over and over again. It is so refreshing in this day and age to witness someone not take the easy road when the personal sacrifice is great.

Many people are proud of you; you stood up for your beliefs and tried to get the truth out, even though it cost you dearly. I'm sure you have a bright future ahead of you. Good Luck!

Sincerely,
C.A

. [IMAGE] Steve,

I am a police officer in Aurora, Colorado, and recently just finished your book. I cannot believe all of the hurdles thrown in front of you! I had the displeasure of living in Boulder for about five months last year . . . what a goofy town that is.

Just wanted to let you know I'm proud of what you did, and tried to do. Please tell me if there is anything we can do to help you and your family.

Take care,

C.F.

. [IMAGE] Dear Mr. Thomas

A few lines to express my support to you and to the work you did in the Jonbenet Ramsey's case.

I'm Spanish and living in Spain. I'm a writer and I have followed this case for some years. I have seen tons of hypocrisy and corruption and sillyness. But not by you. As is happens often, now they are trying to make you pay a price for your integrity. Never mind: there are people on your side; I'm one of them. I know that justice will never be served for Jonbenet. Still more, there are scores of lives shattered, while the culprit(s) is still free. It's a shame. But so is, sometimes, the world in which we are living.

Dignity is what we still have to lose when we have lost all.

We'll never meet, but know that you've got a friend here, in Spain. My admiration, my respect and my best wishes for you and you family,

J.R.
Barcelona, Spain

. [IMAGE] Steve,

You may not remember me but I sure do remember you. You were a very respected officer with Wheat Ridge PD. I was "Robert 8" (Reserve Officer). I had the opportunity to chat with you one winter at Winter Park, Colorado. You took the time to talk to me and gave me advice on becoming a full-time officer. Your words were that of a big brother. You were very genuine, I've admired you and respected you every since! I eventually left Wheat Ridge and went to GPD.

I wanted to just tell you I remember you and believe in you and your abilities. I'm on your side!

Well, as you know, we are all with you, your old brothers in arms. Keep your head high my friend . . . for all of us that seek truth.

All the best,

B.B.

I live in Australia but was originally from England. I thought I had read everything there is to read on the JonBenet Ramsey investigation but have just come across and completed your book on the case. I must say at last someone has writen some sense into this dreadful tragedy and I commend your decision to resign from the police force due to the handling of this case. Let us hope that truth will out one day.

Sincerely

M.F.

. [IMAGE] Hi Steve,

I must commend you on your courage and fortitude for speaking out on your beliefs, and telling the truth as you see it. I know miscarriages of justice occur daily in the criminal justice system, having been the victim of one myself, but the thought of this poor little girl's murder not being prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law leaves me sick to my stomach . . .

Men like you deserve the respect and admiration of all Americans.

Hopefully the perpetrator (will) eventually be brought to justice. Nobody should rest peacefully until that happens.

Cheers, and good health to you sir.

Bill D.

. [IMAGE] Dear Steve,

I am currently a San Francisco police officer and have been for only five years. I just completed your book and wanted to convey my respect for your dedicated work in attempt to seek out justice. I haven't been in the business that long; however long enough to see the many agendas in this line of work. If anything, your book as well as Mark Furhman's "Murder in Brentwood" have given me a better appreciation and understanding how important crime scenes are and that you have to listen to the evidence. Thanks.

Scott

. [IMAGE] 2001 - From a friend of Steve Thomas:

Many years ago, a police officer I respect tremendously shared some words with me I will always remember: "...family takes care of family, and never forget that..."

As all of you know, police officers routinely stand in harm's way so that strangers can be safe from those who do not share our belief in the rule of law.

In return for trying to make their communities better places in which all of us can reside, police officers find their efforts second-guessed by being assaulted, both physically and verbally.

In short, another cop is being sued, although he did absolutely nothing wrong. He deserves better. His name is Steve Thomas.

Steve is a good friend of mine who was a highly decorated 13 year veteran police officer with the Boulder, Colorado Police Department. He was also the lead detective on the JonBenet Ramsey murder investigation.

Steve has been wrongfully sued for libel by John and Patsy Ramsey, in connection with his role in that case and for expressing his First Amendment-protected opinion concerning JonBenet's tragic death.

In the face of this attempt to squelch his free speech rights, former detective Thomas makes it clear that he stands firmly behind his beliefs and his convictions.

Remember the immortal words of Abraham Lincoln, "...it is a sin to remain silent when it is your duty to protest!..."

Respectfully,

-- Marty Brhel, Deputy District Attorney (retired), Riverside County, California
